Ollie’s outstanding performance recognised at the Sporting Achievement Awards

It was a special evening for junior golf in Guernsey with both Ollie Chedhomme and Chloe Gaudion nominated in two categories at the annual celebration of island sport. The Guernsey Sports Commission Sporting Achievement Awards are held each year to celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams that have performed to an outstanding level.

GGU President Lynne Coutanche said “I was very proud to attend the awards evening and watch Ollie Chedhomme receive the prestigious Lambourne Shield for outstanding achievement of the year by an under 18. Congratulations also to Chloe Gaudion who was also nominated for the same award.”

Ollie and Chloe were also nominated for the Sir John Loveridge Award to the sportsperson making the biggest progress over a year.

Magnificent eleven juniors selected for Hampshire squads

A record eleven Junior Boys and Girls have been selected for Hampshire Squads for the 2022 Season. Current Hampshire players Ollie Chedhomme the lowest handicap player on the Island, and Guernsey Junior Boys Champion Rory Mckenna are in a very strong U18 Squad. Meanwhile Lewis Marley and Tanner Austin who both had excellent seasons with some eye catching performances will join a four man U18 development squad.

Chloe Gaudion has been rewarded for her impressive season with selection for the Hampshire Junior Girls Performance Squad for 2022. Guernsey’s lowest handicap Junior Girl who plays off 8, had a stellar 2021 which included breaking the women’s course record at La Grande Mare, winning the women’s club championships, and the prestigious Centenary Trophy at Royal Guernsey.

In the U16 age group Jayden Tucknott has been rewarded for all his hard work and some outstanding golf by joining the squad for the first time alongside James Troop who impressed playing county golf last year and has moved up from the U14s. Long time Hampshire junior Conor Mckenna who had a stellar 2021 winning the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation Order of Merit white tee category is also in the squad and is likely to feature for the U18s during the season too.

Alex Mills and Thomas Chamberlain enjoyed a great battle for the Ray Lowe Order of Merit red tee title and had superb performances at the Hampshire Junior Championships and as a result have been selected for the U14 Development Squad.

Nine year old Lewis O’Brien confirmed his place in the U12 Squad after another great season and a brilliant display at the U12 selection Day in September.

Head Professional at Royal Guernsey Phil Sykes who coaches several of the players said : “The number of players selected for Hampshire Squads is testament to the strength of Junior golf in Guernsey, arguably the most talented group in depth we have ever seen. It is also a tribute to the hard work of the players, their coaches at all the clubs on the Island, and parents who support them. Rory and Conor Mckenna and latterly Ollie Chedhomme have shone at county level for a number of years and paved the way for the others coming through. The great news is there are more talented youngsters in the system, we just need to make sure we can attract the funding they need to ensure they get the opportunities to play off Island to achieve their potential”

Many congratulations to all the players, we are all very proud of you and we wish you the very best of luck for the new season.
