Women’s inter-insular secures new sponsor

RAVENSCROFT has extended its support of inter-island golf and will now be the sponsor of the women’s inter-insular as well as the men’s.

The investment services company has supported the men’s competition for many years but has now also agreed to sponsor the women’s event, which was first played in 2012.

‘It has been a difficult few years for inter-island competition across all sports but hopefully 2022 will see inter-insulars return without social distancing and disruption. Women’s golf in both islands has grown enormously and I think both Guernsey and Jersey will field very strong sides. Having Ravenscroft on board as sponsor adds to the prestigiousness of the competition,’ said Juanita Adlington, president of the Jersey Ladies Golf Association.

‘We want to thank them for extending their support which comes on top of so many other sponsorships they are already committed to. It’s fantastic that companies like Ravenscroft are willing to invest into local sport.’

Jersey won the last ladies inter-insular in 2018 which was held at La Moye in Jersey. This year’s competition will be held on 10th & 11th September at the Royal in Jersey with the men’s inter-insular being held on the same day in Guernsey.

Lynne Coutanche, president of the Guernsey Ladies Golf Association, said they hoped to have the advantage in Jersey this year.

‘There has been a real focus on women’s golf in Guernsey. The Development Squad was formed in 2019 with the aim to create short, mid and long-term goals for female golfers who want to represent Guernsey. Covid hasn’t helped but with the Island Games pushed back to 2023, there is a real focus and so the 2022 Inter-Insular will be a great opportunity for Guernsey golfers to showcase what they have learnt.’

Mark Bousfield, group managing director of Ravenscroft, said it would be fantastic to see inter-island competitions back in the calendar.

‘We have offices in Guernsey and Jersey and so we know first hand the unique and special rivalry that exists between the two islands. We are heavily involved in a number of sporting events and see how proud people are when they represent their island. Having sponsored the men’s golf inter-insular for many years, it made perfect sense to extend Ravenscroft’s support to the ladies event as well,’ he said.

The teams for both islands will be announced over the summer.
